When you bring your own device to DFT Mobile, you’ll need to first unlock it from your current carrier.

Unlocked devices bought from third-parties (such as Best Buy, Apple or Amazon) may still need to be unlocked by the previous carrier. Please contact your current carrier for more information.

Note:

Unlocking your phone may take up to 48 hours. Please contact your current carrier for more information.

To get started, make sure your phone meets the following requirements:

  • The phone is paid off in full before requesting the device unlock.
  • The phone isn’t reported lost or stolen or involved in any fraudulent activity.
  • The account associated with the device is in good standing, with no outstanding balance.
  • The phone is compatible with DFT Mobile.

Not all phones are compatible between mobile carriers. Contact our support team at 716-673-3000 if you have questions on your phone’s compatibility with DFT Mobile.

Before you can unlock your phone, you must obtain an unlock code.

To get an unlock code for your phone, you’ll need to contact the mobile carrier or manufacturer that sold you the device. Additional information for all of the carriers is listed below.

Note:

If you have an Apple iPhone, you’ll need to back up your device and complete a factory reset to finish unlocking your device.

In order to transfer your phone number to DFT Mobile, you’ll need account info from your previous carrier, including your Account Number and Account or Number Transfer PIN.

Note:

Do not disconnect your service with your previous carrier before requesting to transfer your number to Spectrum Mobile. Otherwise, you may not be able to keep your phone number.

The following will help you find your account info for most major carriers.

During the activation process it’s important that you have your previous account info available. Please make sure that you enter your info correctly. If you have trouble finding these details, contact your previous carrier.

If you’re trying to transfer your landline, it may take up to 3-5 business days before your home provider releases the info to DFT Mobile.

Note:

If you’re trying to deactivate or remove a previous carrier’s eSIM from your compatible device, open Settings > Cellular > Select the eSIM you’d like to deactivate, then tap the toggle next to “Turn on this line.”
